Privacy Policy

1729 Math (1729math.com and the 1729 SAT: Math & Reading app) · Effective September 9, 2026

1729 Math is a free math and computer science curriculum used by students and teachers, alongside a paid SAT prep course. The short version: we collect what is needed to run your account and track your study progress, we never sell your information, and we show no ads.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address (or a username for younger students), a display name, and your role (student, teacher, or parent).
  • Study data: the problems you attempt, your answers, scores, progress through courses, and study-plan settings. This is the core of the service: it is used to grade your work, remember where you left off, and personalize what you practice next.
  • Usage data: sign-in events and time spent practicing, used to operate the service and understand how it is used in aggregate.
  • Feedback: if you report a bug or send feedback, we receive the message you write and the context of the problem you were viewing.
  • Subscription status: if you subscribe in the iOS app, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple. If you subscribe on the website, it is processed by Stripe (using Link to store your card), acting as merchant of record. Either way, we never see or store your payment card details; we receive only your subscription status (active or expired, and its renewal date) so we can unlock paid content.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
  • We do not show advertising and do not use advertising trackers.
  • We do not use your data for anything other than providing and improving the service.

Cookies and analytics

Inside the signed-in application we use cookies only to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics or advertising code loads on any page a signed-in student or teacher uses.

On our public marketing pages (the front page and course descriptions) we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find us; it sets its own cookies on those pages. It never loads inside the application, so student activity is not sent to Google.

Service providers

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the service. Each receives only what is needed for its function:

  • Supabase: database and authentication hosting (your account and study data live here).
  • Vercel: website hosting and aggregate performance analytics.
  • Apple: App Store payments and subscription management.
  • RevenueCat: manages subscriptions and relays your subscription status to us, for both App Store and web purchases.
  • Stripe: processes and stores payment details for web subscriptions, as merchant of record; calculates, collects, and remits any sales tax or VAT.
  • Link: Stripe's checkout and card-storage service; the merchant name that appears on your statement for a web subscription.
  • Resend: sends transactional email (e.g. sign-up confirmations, bug-report notifications).
  • Sentry: error reporting, so we can fix crashes. Session recordings used for diagnosis have all text masked and all media blocked, so they carry no names, rosters, or student work.
  • Cloudflare: storage and delivery of instructional video. Course content only; no student data.

Schools, teachers, and student privacy

1729 Math is used by students, including students under 13 whose accounts are created by a teacher, school, or parent. When a school or teacher creates accounts, we act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA, under the school's direct control with respect to the education records we handle, and the school provides consent on the parent's behalf under COPPA for students under 13. We make the following commitments to every school, district, and teacher that uses 1729 Math, in every state, without needing to be asked:

  • Educational purpose only. Student data is used solely to provide, maintain, and improve the educational service for that student and their school. It is never used for any other purpose.
  • Never sold, never rented, never traded. Not to anyone, for any consideration.
  • No advertising. We show no ads, run no targeted advertising, and never use student data to advertise to anyone.
  • No profiling for non-educational purposes. The only profile we build is the record of a student's own progress, used to grade their work and personalize what they practice next within the courses their school assigns.
  • Not used to train AI. Student data is never used to train machine-learning or artificial-intelligence models.
  • Minimum collection. We collect only what the service needs: no location, no contacts, no photos, no advertising identifiers, no Social Security numbers.
  • Encrypted and access-controlled. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in the United States, and every account is limited at the database layer to its own records: a student sees only their own work, a teacher only their own students.
  • Deleted on request. A school may ask us to delete any student's data, or all of its students' data, at any time. We delete within 30 days of the request, or of the end of our relationship with the school, and confirm in writing on request. We keep no copy.
  • Breach notice. If student data is breached, we notify the affected school without unreasonable delay and within any shorter deadline its state law sets.
  • Parents can see and correct. Parents and eligible students may review and correct their records through their school, or by writing to us; we correct at the school's direction.
  • Published service providers. Every company that processes student data is listed above. We give schools advance notice before adding one.

These commitments are intended to satisfy state student-data-privacy laws, including those modeled on California's SOPIPA and those that require specific commitments from vendors. Where a state or district requires a signed agreement, such as New York Education Law § 2-d or Illinois SOPPA, we sign the Student Data Privacy Consortium's National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA) and extend it to every other district in that state through its general offer of terms, so one agreement covers the state. Our Education Law § 2-d supplemental information and data security and privacy plan are available to any school on request at privacy@1729math.com.

Deleting your account

Students who sign in with their own email and password can delete their account (and the personal data listed above) from the Account page, in the app or on the web. Teacher, parent, and school-created student accounts are deleted by us on request: email privacy@1729math.com and we will erase the account and its data.

If you have an active web subscription, deleting your account cancels it automatically. You won't be charged again. If you have an active App Store subscription, deletion does not cancel it: Apple manages that billing, and you must cancel it separately in Settings > Subscriptions on your device.

Security and retention

Data is stored with access controls that limit each account to its own records, and is retained only while your account exists (or as required for billing records). No system is perfectly secure, so we limit what we collect.
